The conference brought together scholars interested in interdisciplinary and critical perspectives on accounting. Presentations challenged dominant representations of accounting and presented alternative narratives of accounting practice, exploring its diverse and multiple histories, contexts, and constituents.
Ingrid Jeacle gave one of the keynote addresses of the conference on the theme of ‘Giving Alternative Accounts through Everyday Life and Popular Culture’. In this keynote, Ingrid gave an overview of her scholarship in the area of accounting and everyday life and popular culture, and the theoretical frameworks that she has found useful in examining this research domain. She outlined the opportunities of this field of research for furthering an understanding of how accounting is shaped, and in turn shapes, our everyday life. She also addressed the challenges for scholars in providing an ‘alternative account’ and the dangers of the review process in stifling creativity.
