Business School Chair in Accounting, Governance and Social Innovation, Professor Paolo Quattrone, says Jesuit accounting was often superior to the contemporary discipline.
Commenting in the Financial Times, he said accountancy should not just be seen as a way of keeping track of financial transactions, but as a means of reflecting on society’s goals in any given situation.
He said:
The Jesuits translated humanist knowledge into a coherent system of administration and accounting that was functional to the organisation’s quick spread and long-distance control.
