20 October 2017

The Centre for Accounting and Society (CAS) is delighted that two new Chairs in Accounting have been appointed at the University of Edinburgh Business School.

Professor David Cooper has joined the Business School as a Chair in Accounting. He started on 2 October and will be working on a part-time basis. His research is primarily in critical management studies, management accounting and control, and the regulation of accounting and accountants. It is interdisciplinary, critically orientated, and problem-centred, drawing on sociology, political science and social theory to understand regulation, organisational and managerial rationality, and performance measurement and management.

Following very close behind him, Professor Christine Cooper will join the Business School as Chair in Accounting on 1 February 2018. She joins us from the University of Strathclyde. Her research is broadly concerned with the impact of accounting in our everyday lives and this broad interdisciplinary arena has two dominant strands. The first is concerned with the probably unanswerable question – why do we do what we do! In terms of accounting this would mean considering how accounting information or accounting’s theoretical frameworks impact upon our decision-making or actions.

We welcome them to the Business School and CAS and wish them all the best.
